Gateway Games: Ekiti rises on medals table, continues search for laurels

Olaniyi Joshua on Saturday added another Gold medal for Ekiti state in the ongoing 22nd edition of the National Sports Festival tagged Gateway Games in Ogun State.

He won the gold in Para-Athletics Shot-put with a distant throw of 9.62 meters after coming first in the F53/54 category.

In Tennis, Daniel Adeleye and Success Ogunjobi won two Bronze medals in both male and female single after losing their semi-final games.

Ekiti plays the team’s game in tennis this Sunday as well as other Athletics events.

As of Saturday evening, Ekiti won two Gold, two Silver, and Eight Bronze medals.

Meanwhile, the Technical Ad ftvisor to Governor Oyebanji on Sports Development, Dr.Olusola Osetoba, has expressed delight at the performance of the team Ekiti so far in the ongoing festival.

While speaking in an interview, the Technical Advisor said the performance of the team so far is gradually changing the narrative and an indication that the state will go home with additional gold and other medals and wants the Athletes to put in more effort to win more Gold medals for the state.

She equally delivered warm greetings from the state governor, Biodun Oyebanji, to the Athletes and encouraged them to do everything within their power to make the state proud.

According to her “Excellency extends his warm greetings to all Ekiti contingents and medalists. He looks forward to receiving more gold medals for your outstanding performances. He charges you to make Ekiti proud and represent the state with distinction, upholding its values and dignity.” Osetoba added.
