Court Adjourns Portable’s Case to Merge Charges with His Workers

An Abeokuta Magistrate’s Court has postponed the trial of popular musician Habeeb Okikiola, widely known as Portable, to March 26. The adjournment was made to allow the prosecution to consolidate his charges with those of his workers.
During the hearing on Wednesday, following Portable’s initial arraignment on February 20, the prosecution argued that trying the musician separately from his workers would be inefficient.
Senior State Counsel, Mr. Timileyin Oredein, informed the court that Portable’s case was closely linked to another involving his workers. He emphasized that since the artist and nine of his employees had previously been arraigned on similar charges on February 6, it would be more practical to merge both cases.
Oredein requested a short adjournment to allow for the formal consolidation and substitution of charges.
Portable and his workers face a five-count charge, including conspiracy, assault, unlawful obstruction while armed with weapons such as cutlasses and a gun, and conduct likely to disturb public order. They are also accused of assaulting three officials from the Ogun State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.
