Kogi Lawmaker represents State Assembly Speaker at National Assembly public hearing

Hon. Jibril Abu, in dual capacity, representing Ajaokuta State Constituency, represented The Kogi Speaker, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Umar, at the Kogi State House of Assembly, On Thursday, the 27th February, 2025, attended a public hearing at the National Assembly to support the Ajaokuta Special Trust Fund Bill, 2024. The bill, sponsored by Hon. Sanni Egidi Abdulraheem, Ajaokuta Federal Lawmaker, Representing Ajaokuta Federal Constituency, aims to establish a sustainable financial framework for the revitalization and completion of the Ajaokuta Steel Company.
During the hearing, Hon. Abu presented a memorandum emphasizing the strategic importance of Ajaokuta Steel to Nigeria’s industrialization, economic diversification, and job creation efforts. He commended Hon. Abdulraheem for his foresight in sponsoring the bill, which aligns with the broader agenda of industrial development and infrastructure expansion in Kogi State and Nigeria.
The proposed trust fund is envisioned as a game-changer, ensuring dedicated financial resources for the revival, maintenance, and optimal functioning of the steel company. With sustained legislative and executive support, the Ajaokuta Special Trust Fund is expected to become a reality, unlocking economic opportunities for the nation.
The bill aims to secure government funding for the steel company’s completion, rather than relying on concessioning or sales. Hon. Abu expressed confidence in the government’s ability to provide the necessary support, citing President Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s demonstrated commitment to the project’s actualization.
The public hearing provided a platform for stakeholders to discuss the bill’s provisions, its potential impact on Nigeria’s industrial sector, and the roadmap for its successful implementation. Other attendees included Hon. Yusuf Balogun, Hon. Mutari Momohjimoh, stakeholders from the Steel City, and representatives from the civil society organization.
