Kano Assembly receives State Police Bill, begins expeditious review

The Kano State House of Assembly has formally received the State Police Bill and has commenced its legislative review without delay.

In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, on Friday, the Assembly confirmed that copies of the Bill have been circulated to all Honourable Members for in-depth study, analysis and possible input for improvement where necessary.

Furthermore, the statement stated that, the State Police Bill was read on the floor of the House during a recent plenary session, during which members were given the opportunity to begin proper legislative consideration of the Bill in accordance with due process.

It is anticipated that after members have completed their individual review, the Bill will be scheduled for second reading on 12th October, 2026, for further deliberation and approval by the entire House.

Speaking on the development, the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Jibril Isma’il Falgore, reiterated that Kano State is fully committed and prepared to confront security challenges head-on, stressing that while Kano remains relatively peaceful compared to many other states in the country, proactive legislation is crucial to sustaining and strengthening the state’s security architecture.
