Former Osun State Governor and Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, has expressed confidence in the chances of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, in the ongoing Osun State governorship election.

Oyetola spoke shortly after casting his ballot alongside his wife, Alhaja Kafayat Oyetola, at Ward 1, Unit 10, Iragbiji, in Boripe Local Government Area of the state, at about 10:30 a.m.

The former governor said the significant turnout of voters was an indication of the people’s interest in the democratic process and their determination to participate in choosing the next governor of the state.

He also commended voters for maintaining a peaceful atmosphere at the polling unit, urging residents to sustain the conduct throughout the election and after the announcement of results.

“I am encouraged by the turnout of voters. It shows that our people are interested in the democratic process and are determined to exercise their civic responsibility,” Oyetola said.

As the APC leader in the state, Oyetola expressed optimism that Oyebamiji’s campaign and support among voters would translate into victory at the end of the exercise.

“I am confident in our candidate, and I believe the people of Osun will make the right choice,” he said.

He, however, urged supporters of all political parties to avoid violence, provocation and other actions capable of disrupting the electoral process, stressing that the priority should be to allow voters to freely make their choice.

Oyetola also commended security agencies deployed across the state and urged them to remain professional, impartial and vigilant until the completion of the electoral process.

“What is most important now is for everybody to remain calm and allow the votes to be counted and the will of the people to prevail,” the former governor added.
