The Vice-Chancellor, Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi (MOAUM), Prof. Timothy Alabar, has disclosed that the welfare of students and staff, alongside infrastructural development, are the topmost priorities of his administration.
Alabar disclosed on Monday in Makurdi while presenting his six-month scorecard, highlighting the achievements and initiatives of his administration since assuming office.
He reiterated that students’ and staff welfare, as well as the upgrade and expansion of the university’s infrastructure, remained the pillars of his administration.
He explained that prioritising the welfare of students and staff would create the conditions necessary for the institution to function optimally.
“My vision is for the university to be among the top, and it is driven by vigour.
“I am committed to creating a conducive environment for both teaching and learning.
“We have initiated programmes where we engage students in constructive dialogue as partners.” VC stressed.
The Vice-Chancellor said his achievements were categorised into five key areas: academic development, research, community service, physical development and engagement initiatives.
He disclosed that, as part of efforts to reward merit and hard work, the University Council had approved the retention of students who emerged as the best graduating students of their respective sets.
Alabar further disclosed that within the six months of his administration, five academic programmes had secured full accreditation, while two others obtained interim accreditation.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Member George-Genyi, said the Vice-Chancellor’s major concern was the welfare of students and staff, as well as the development of formidable infrastructure to strengthen the core mandate of the administration.
George-Genyi said the administration’s engagement with stakeholders had been profound, noting that it had provided an avenue for their contributions and perspectives to be synchronised with the university’s development agenda.
She pledged the institution’s staff continued and unalloyed support for the Vice-Chancellor’s administration.
Earlier, the Director of Information, Protocol and Public Relations (IPPR), Funmilayo Tolufashe, described the media as an indispensable partner of the institution.
Tolufashe said the media played a crucial role in projecting the image and activities of the university to the outside world, stressing that the institution deeply valued its partnership with the media.
She added that the university had continued to make deliberate efforts to reposition itself across various fronts.
