The Ogun State Police Command has recovered an English submachine gun and 75 rounds of live ammunition concealed inside a damaged wardrobe in Sagamu Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement, saying the firearm was discovered on August 5, 2026, while a rented apartment previously occupied by a deceased landlord was being cleared.
According to him, operatives of the Sakura Division responded swiftly to the report, secured the premises and recovered the firearm and ammunition.
He said the recovered exhibits had been secured and would be subjected to ballistic examination by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, while investigation continues to determine how they were concealed in the apartment.
In a related development, police operatives attached to the Idi Oke Division have arrested 12 suspected cultists and recovered various items during an operation in the Igbesa area of the state.
Babaseyi said the operation followed credible intelligence about suspected cultists allegedly harassing and extorting patrons at Harodous Hotel, Lattykay, Igbesa.
He said the operation, conducted on August 3, 2026, led to the arrest of 12 suspects, while several others escaped.
Recovered from the scene, according to the police, were assorted charms, battle axes, knives, cult-related paraphernalia, eight motorcycles, a black Lexus vehicle and an unregistered red Toyota Camry.
The arrested suspects are expected to be transferred to the SCID, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend those who fled.
Meanwhile, operatives of the Sagamu Division have recovered an abandoned red Bajaj motorcycle near a mechanic workshop at Trailer Park, Kara, Sabo, Sagamu.
The motorcycle has been secured as police continue investigations to identify its rightful owner and establish the circumstances surrounding its abandonment.
Babaseyi quoted the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, as reaffirming the command’s commitment to proactive and intelligence-led policing, strategic patrols, rapid response and collaboration with other security agencies.
Ojajuni urged residents to remain vigilant and provide the police with timely and credible information to help prevent crime and ensure that offenders are brought to justice.
