The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has postponed the release of the access code earlier promised to be released that will enable political parties to upload the names of their nominated candidates for the 2027 general election.

The access code, initially scheduled for release on Friday, June 26, will now be made available on Monday, June 29, according to sources within the commission and political parties.

The sources obtained by Standard Times Nigeria Newspaper’s Correspondent disclosed that the adjustment was made to ensure a seamless upload of candidates’ nomination documents through the commission’s online nomination portal.

An INEC official explained that political parties had already received all the required nomination forms, with only the portal access code outstanding.

“What is outstanding now is for the political parties to upload all the various forms to the access code when it is released to them. The political parties have been given the forms that would be filled, but the access code on where it would be uploaded has not been released until Monday,” the source said.

Meanwhile, Standard Times Nigeria gathered that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday presented Certificates of Return to its duly nominated candidates and simultaneously issued them the necessary INEC nomination forms.

At the ceremony, the party, led by Abdulrahman Mohammed, ratified the outcomes of its primaries for the election of presidential, governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives and State Houses of Assembly candidates for the 2027 general election.

Sources within the party disclosed that each candidate was directed to complete and return the INEC nomination forms within 72 hours to enable the party commence the online submission process immediately the commission activates the nomination portal.

The INEC nomination portal is expected to open for the submission of Presidential and National Assembly candidates, with political parties required to upload completed Forms EC9 and EC9A–E electronically once the access code is released.
