Governor Dapo Abiodun has revealed that the Ogun State Government will soon commence the Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme (RHWDP), a social intervention initiative designed to provide monthly financial support to between 50,000 and 100,000 residents across the state over the next year.
The governor announced the programme on Friday during the opening ceremony of the first session of the 15th Synod of the Remo Anglican Diocese, themed “The Empty Tomb: An Authentic Proof of the Living Saviour, Jesus Christ,” held at Our Saviour’s Anglican Church in Ikenne.
Abiodun said his administration would also give priority attention to the reconstruction of the Sagamu–Ode Lemo Road, noting that strong collaboration between government and religious institutions remains vital to achieving peace, justice, and sustainable development in society.
He praised the Anglican Church for its continued dedication to spiritual growth, moral guidance, and community advancement, stressing that the nation currently needs faith based institutions to promote hope, unity, and ethical leadership.
According to the governor, the Synod has continued to serve as an important platform for prayers, reflection, doctrinal direction, and decision making that strengthens the Christian faith while positively influencing society at large.
Abiodun further acknowledged the Church’s contributions in key sectors such as education, healthcare, youth empowerment, family values, and community welfare, describing the institution as an essential partner in raising responsible citizens and promoting integrity, compassion, accountability, and peaceful coexistence.
“The Church has consistently remained a moral compass for society by defending justice, supporting the vulnerable, and encouraging leaders to govern with fairness and integrity,” he said.
The governor added that his administration remains focused on expanding opportunities for economic growth, institutional development, and the overall welfare of Ogun residents.
Speaking on the political atmosphere in the state, Abiodun urged religious leaders to continue promoting peace, truth, and responsible citizenship ahead of future elections. He encouraged citizens to participate actively in the democratic process through voter registration and participation at the polls.
He also stated that the political climate in Ogun State has improved significantly compared to seven years ago, when elections were marked by violence, tension, and thuggery. He noted that the ongoing All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries in the state have so far been peaceful, transparent, and credible.
Reflecting on his own experience during the APC primaries seven years ago, the governor said the difference between then and now is “like night and day,” adding that politics in the state has become far less violent and more orderly.
In his sermon, the Bishop of the Remo Diocese and Archbishop of the Ecclesiastical Province of Lagos, Olusina Fape commended Governor Abiodun for implementing impactful projects under his ISEYA development agenda across Ogun State’s three senatorial districts.
He specifically highlighted the newly inaugurated Gateway International Airport as a major infrastructure project capable of improving transportation, boosting commerce, and attracting investment to the state.
Archbishop Fape also applauded the government’s Light Up Ogun Project, describing it as a significant achievement that has enhanced electricity supply for residents and businesses while creating opportunities for economic growth.
