The Management of the Bayelsa State Polytechnic, Aleibiri, has announced plans to hold it’s historic maiden combined convocation ceremony of the institution.

The milestone event marks the formal conferral of degrees and diplomas on graduates from different academic sessions who successfully completed their programmes in various disciplines of the polytechnic.

Announcing the event during a Pre-convocation Press briefing, the Rector of BYPOLY, Dr. Wisdom Soreh, stated that the maiden combined convocation ceremony is scheduled to hold on Saturday, 23rd May 2026.

According to him, the ceremony is not only a celebration of academic excellence, but also demonstration of the institutions commitment to technical education, manpower development, entrepreneurship, innovation, and youth empowerment in the state and Nigeria at large.

“As part of activities marking the convocation, the institution shall host a convocation lecture to be delivered by Prof. Promise Mebine, a distinguished scholar and renowned academic, whose wealth of experience and intellectual contributions will enrich the discourse on national development and technology advancement”

We are particularly grateful to the governor of the state for his unwavering support and commitment to the growth of the polytechnic. Under his watch, the institution has continued to witness significant infrastructural development and academics expansion following our relocation to the permanent site at Aleibiri.

Highlighting the challenges facing the institution, Dr. Soreh, disclosed that management have been able to identify and catalogued the challenges, and dealing with them gradually as the institution progresses.

Speaking during the Pre-convocation lecture with the theme “Bridging The Gap Between Skills Acquisition And Enterprise Creation : The Role Of Polytechnics In Nigeria’s Economic Future” Vice Chancellor, Federal University Otuoke, Prof. Promise Mebine, expressed disappointment over institutions producing graduates with technical skills and certificates but lack entrepreneur ability to turn skills to business.

He disclosed that they are many young graduates in Nigeria but over 30 percent of those graduates currently are unemployed because too many emphasis on theory but they don’t practice what has been studied.
