Arsenal clinch 2025/26 Premier League title after 22-year wait

Arsenal FC have officially been crowned champions of the 2025/26 Premier League season after 22 years of waiting, following Manchester City’s 1-1 draw against AFC Bournemouth on Tuesday night.

The result ended City’s hopes of catching Arsenal in the title race, with both clubs left with just one league game remaining.

Pep Guardiola’s side entered the match needing a victory to keep their chances alive, but they failed to secure all three points at the Vitality Stadium.

Bournemouth took the lead through Elye Wahi Kroupi Junior, who curled a fine effort beyond goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

City struggled to make their dominance count despite creating several opportunities during the game.

David Brooks missed two clear chances to extend Bournemouth’s advantage before Erling Haaland rescued a late equaliser for the visitors.

The draw confirmed Arsenal as champions and ended the club’s 22-year wait for another English top-flight title.

Mikel Arteta’s side had moved closer to the trophy after defeating Burnley FC 1-0 on Monday, with Kai Havertz scoring from a corner delivered by Bukayo Saka.

That victory placed the Gunners five points clear at the top of the table, leaving City with little room for error.

Arsenal are now expected to lift the Premier League trophy during Sunday’s away fixture against Crystal Palace FC.

The title triumph marks Arsenal’s first league success since the historic 2003/04 “Invincibles” campaign under legendary manager Arsène Wenger, when the North London club completed the entire season unbeaten.

Meanwhile, Bournemouth’s impressive unbeaten run stretched to 17 league matches, a remarkable achievement that has secured European football for the club for the first time in its history. AFP.
