A frontline aspirant of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) for Nnewi North State Constituency election, Hon. Celestine Uzochukwu Okeke, has said his constituency need person of character, competence and career match to be able to bring dividends of democracy.
He said this during his declaration to represent Nnewi North in the Anambra State House of Assembly on Monday, April 20 in Otolo Nnewi.
Speaking during the event, Hon. Okeke, a legal practitioner told the people present his intention to contest for the position in order to give them good representation.
He stated the importance of electing a lawyer, who will have the competence, vigour and career match to offer quality representation.
“Nnewi North is in need of quality representation, to be able to project the interest of the people at the state assembly. In the past, Nnewi North had people that represented them at this level; but this time around, we need person of character, competence and career match, to be able to bring dividends of democracy to Nnewi North constituents.
“Most constituencies in Anambra State send lawyers to represent them because of career match. Every civilized society and community send lawyers to represent them. You cannot compare a lawyer and non lawyer in terms of legislative performance.
“I feel and believe that I’m the best candidate for Nnewi North House of Assembly seat. I have the competence, the career match and the youthful vigour,” he said.
He went memory lane to a time in history, when APGA was factionalized, and how he offered free legal services to the party in order to redeem its soul. He urged that APGA should remember those sacrifices to consider him for the party’s ticket.
In her remarks, the state Treasurer of the party, Hon. (Mrs) Vero Nweke, who is an APGA stakeholder in the area, commended Hon. Okeke for his bold intention; assuring him that party faithful in the area would strongly support him.
She urged the House of Assembly faithful to keep faith as APGA in Nnewi North will support him if he got the party’s ticket.
Another major stakeholder in the area, Hon. (Mrs) Ngozi Ubah, urged party stakeholders to rally round the aspirant to help him succeed.
She expressed optimism that Hon. Okeke will do well for the party and Nnewi North in general, if given the opportunity.
Several other stakeholders took their turns to eulogize Hon. Celestine Okeke, and said that electing him to the state assembly will favour Nnewi North.
