The Oodua Integrity Group has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to investigate the forces behind the non-resumption of Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Idris Adamu (rtd), who was announced alongside other appointees; as Chairman of the Military Pension Board.
His appointment was conveyed through a letter from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, and was further supported by commendation letters from the Office of the National Security Adviser and the Ministry of Defence.Â
Despite these official authorizations, investigations by the group revealed that the appointee has been prevented from assuming office.
This action is allegedly being carried out by authorities within the Military Pension Board, reportedly acting under directives from the Chief of Defence Staff.Â
Adebayo Soetan, Defence Affairs Liaison of the group, stated that such defiance of presidential orders amounts to insubordination and an affront to the authority of the President and Commander-in-Chief.
He emphasized that denying a duly appointed presidential appointee from assuming office constitutes a direct challenge to the integrity of the presidency.Â
Furthermore, the group stressed that all arms and agencies of government are expected to implement presidential directives promptly and in good faith.
Any deliberate attempt to obstruct or delay such directives, they noted, undermines the rule of law and weakens the foundation of governance.Â
The situation surrounding AVM Adamu has been described as both unprecedented and deeply concerning.
It is highly irregular for any organ of government to openly resist or frustrate the assumption of office by a presidential appointee.
Such actions, the group warned, not only sabotage government efforts but also set a dangerous precedent for institutional indiscipline.
The Oodua Integrity Group therefore called on the Presidency to intervene urgently and decisively.
According to them, such action will reaffirm the supremacy of lawful authority and send a clear message that no individual or institution is above the President within the framework of Nigeria’s constitutional democracy.Â
They concluded that swift intervention will restore public confidence and uphold the integrity of governance in the country.
