The Honourable Minister for Education, Dr. Tunji Alousa has commissioned three legacy projects of the outgoing Federal University of Gusau Vice Chancellor, Professor M.G. Abubakar in Zamfara state.
The projects were commissioned by the minister today within the premises of the Federal University of Gusau, FUGUS at Damba area of Gusau the state capital.
The Minister commended the sincere efforts of the Vice Chancellor and his management team for sponsoring legacy projects that would outlive them. He stressed that, their names would be in everlasting remembrance while recounting the history of the institution.
In his remarks, the outgoing Vice Chancellor of FUGUS, Professor M. G. Abubakar said, upon his inception as the VC of the institution, he made promise that he will ensure the completion of these projects before the end of his tenure as the Vice Chancellor of Federal University of Gusau and he was glad that with the help of the Almighty Allah and relevant stakeholders, he was able to delivered successful, satisfying and completed projects for the help of mankind and continued development of the society.
Education is a challenge, any society that do not accept the challenge of education will definitely remain in the darkness of primitivity and barbarism.
The more a people or society are educated, the more benefits of development, civilization and light are enjoyed in the society.
Whatever we have done and still doing here is not only for Zamfara state citizens but for the benefit of the entire humanity and country at large.
The Vice Chancellor said the construction and equipping of the library, Agriculture Theatre and faculty of science extension is a plus to educational advancement in Nigeria and if judiciously utilize would enhance our potentials and capacity as humanity within our environment.
The library has been sectionize to accommodate all accredited programs of the University. In view of the capacity, the library was constructed to accommodate 1500 capacity of students at a time.
The now completed projects of the Federal University of Gusau commenced since in the year 2020, and having witnessed a lot of financial setbacks, Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TET- Fund stepped-in and via their generous interventions, the projects are now completed to the glory of the Almighty Allah and to help of mankind.
The VC lauded the family of late Alhaji Ibrahim Mallaha, Hon. Zannan Bungudu and other Stakeholders whose contributions led to the successful completion of the projects.
Earlier in his words, the University Orator, Comrade Linus Akor has said that, Universities are recognized generally as centres for reproduction and dissemination of knowledge, the Library is a very critical component because it is a repository of knowledge.
The library serves as a vital vehicle in the production and disseminations value chain materials as well as a content for all resourceful materials as books, journals, reference materials and E-learning materials.
At the regulatory level of National University Commission, NUC, no university gains accreditation until its library is ascertained to have met the minimum requirement for accreditation.
In Federal University Gusau, priority is placed ultimately in owning and managing a morden and sophisticated library based on the history. In the last five years, the University under the leadership of M. G. Abubakar spent time without number, reaching out to funding Agencies and government agencies responsible for the release of fund for critical library infrastructure.
Today, this iconic building being commissioned before witnesses is a culmination of the efforts earlier made for this befitting library.
