The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State has moved to consolidate its internal cohesion ahead of the 2027 general elections, adopting a consensus arrangement that produced Senator Olamilekan Adeola as the party’s preferred governorship candidate.

Governor Dapo Abiodun formally announced the decision following a high-level stakeholders’ meeting attended by party leaders, elders, and key political actors across the state.

Abiodun described the consensus as a strategic step aimed at preserving unity within the party while positioning it strongly for electoral victory in 2027.

He noted that the decision was reached after extensive consultations and deliberations among critical stakeholders, emphasizing that it reflected the collective will of the party.

According to the governor, Senator Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, possesses the political experience, grassroots appeal, and administrative competence required to sustain the developmental strides of the current administration.

He urged party members to rally behind the consensus candidate, stressing that internal harmony remains crucial to the APC’s continued dominance in Ogun State politics.

In his acceptance remarks, Adeola expressed gratitude to the party leadership and stakeholders for the confidence reposed in him, pledging to justify the trust by working towards inclusive governance and sustained development if elected.

He also assured members that his candidacy would be driven by unity, continuity, and people-oriented policies, while promising to build on the achievements of the Abiodun-led administration.

Party chieftains at the meeting commended the adoption of consensus, describing it as a mature political approach capable of minimizing internal disputes and strengthening the APC’s electoral chances.

The development signals an early start to the 2027 political permutations in Ogun State, with the ruling party seeking to avoid the rancour of divisive primaries by presenting a united front.
