The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has deployed manpower and operational equipment to support the October edition of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise across Lagos State, with interventions in Ikorodu, Ikeja and other locations.
The Director of Public Affairs, Dr Mukaila Sanusi, disclosed this in a statement issued over the weekend.
Leading LAWMA’s sanitation team in Ikorodu, the Executive Director, Finance, Mr Kunle Adebiyi, said the Authority’s deployment underscored its commitment to supporting statewide efforts to maintain environmental cleanliness and promote responsible waste management.
The exercise in Ikorodu covered Ladega Street and adjoining streets within Ajina Community, where LAWMA personnel and equipment supported the clean-up operations.
The exercise was attended by the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu; the Honourable Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr Tokunbo Wahab; and other senior government officials, including Permanent Secretaries, Directors and environmental health officers.
Similarly, LAWMA supported the exercise in Ikeja, where the Head of Service, Mr Bode Agoro, led a team to Onilekere, Saidu, Olumo and adjoining streets for the sanitation intervention.
Adebiyi noted that LAWMA’s participation across different locations reflected the Authority’s operational support for the statewide initiative and its determination to complement government efforts towards a cleaner environment.
He urged residents to sustain the gains of the exercise by adopting proper waste disposal practices, keeping their surroundings clean and avoiding indiscriminate dumping of refuse on roads, drainage channels and other public spaces.
He reiterated the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining environmental cleanliness, urging residents, businesses and community stakeholders to complement government interventions through consistent adherence to proper sanitation practices.
