The Bayelsa State Police Command, on Day Three of the National Police Day 2026 celebration, organized a sensitization programme on electoral violence and road safety at Ekeki Motor Park, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. The initiative was aimed at promoting peaceful electoral participation, enhancing road safety awareness, and fostering responsible conduct among motorists and members of the public.
Repretatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), members of NURTW, PCRC, Tipper Driver’s Union, representatives of political parties, civil servants and driver’s union members, student union bodies, tricycle union, officers and men of the Command, and other stakeholders gathered at Ekeki Motor Park, Yenagoa, for a sensitization and interactive session on electoral violence prevention and road safety.
As part of the programme, a representative of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mr. Alfred Akpojotor, delivered a lecture on electoral violence and other related offences, highlighting their dangers, legal implications, and the need for citizens to embrace peaceful participation in the electoral process. The Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State Command, CP Iyamah Daniel Edebor, psc, IICFIP, foosi, also delivered a lecture on road safety, educating participants on safe driving practices, adherence to traffic regulations, and the importance of responsible behaviour on the roads. In his welcome address, the Commissioner thanked all participants and reiterated the theme of the event: Community Partnership and Building Trust.
During the sensitization, participants were further educated on the dangers of electoral violence, thuggery, and other unlawful acts, and were urged to remain law-abiding. The Commissioner of Police encouraged the general public and transport union members to support the Police with timely and actionable intelligence to aid ongoing efforts in combating crime and criminality. He further cautioned against reckless driving and urged all motorists to strictly adhere to traffic rules and regulations to safeguard lives and property. There was also a question-and-answer session, and the event was engaging and enlightening. The leadership of the transport union commended the Command for the initiative, describing it as first of its kind, timely, and impactful. Also present was the PCRC Chairman, Dr. Nmmenegbor James, alongside his members, who participated in the exercise in support of community service initiatives.
The Commissioner of Police reaffirmed the Command commitment to the safety and well-being of residents of Bayelsa State, emphasizing that effective policing extends beyond crime prevention to include community engagement and public enlightenment. The Command appreciates all partners and assures the good people of Bayelsa State of its continued dedication to people-oriented policing.
