A sweeping crackdown on crime in Niger State has led to the arrest of 14 suspects linked to armed robbery, kidnapping, and illegal mining activities across multiple locations.

The operation, carried out by the Niger State Police Command, followed actionable intelligence that guided coordinated raids in areas including Tafa, Jebba, and Gawu-Babangida.

Police spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed that the suspects were apprehended in separate operations targeting criminal hotspots.

In one case, four suspects were arrested in Gurara Local Government Area for alleged involvement in phone-snatching and attempted armed robbery along the Abuja-Kaduna expressway.

Another operation in Jebba led to the arrest of five suspects linked to a violent robbery where a cattle trader was beaten and dispossessed of ₦2.5 million.

Police said the suspects were identified by the victim and later confessed to the crime, including how they shared the stolen money.

In a separate raid, seven individuals were arrested for illegal mining and vandalism at the Gurara Waterfalls, where officers recovered digging equipment and machinery.

Authorities described the arrests as a major step in curbing criminal activities that have threatened economic and social stability in the state.

The command confirmed that some suspects have already been charged to court, while others are undergoing further investigation.

Efforts are ongoing to apprehend fleeing members of the criminal networks, with police vowing sustained pressure on offenders.

Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and support security agencies with timely information.

The crackdown signals a renewed commitment by law enforcement to restore order and deter criminality across Niger State.
