Women leader dumps PDP, defects to APC in Kebbi

The former National Women Leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Hajiya Maria Waziri has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Receiving the women leader alongside other defectors on Monday at the Government House Birnin Kebbi, the Kebbi State Governor, Comrade Dr Nasir Idris commended her decision, for describing it as timely and commendable.

The Governor assured the defectors that his administration would continue to support the people of Kebbi State and remain committed to delivering governance.

He further stated that the APC was fully prepared to accommodate the new members and ensure they enjoy equal rights and opportunities within the party.

“Hajiya Maria is my younger sister, while on the other hand, she is also my elder sister because she is married to my elder brother, therefore i know her capacity and what she is capable of doing,” he said.

Also speaking, the APC Chairman, Kebbi State, Alhaji Abubakar Kana-Zuru assured the new APC members of fairness and inclusiveness within the party.

“Our governor has done a lot for the people of Kebbi State, your decision to join APC is a very good one, and you will be treated equally like every other member of the party ,” he noted.

Responding, the Team leader and the former PDP National Women Leader, Hajiya Maria Waziri said her decision to join the APC was informed by the achievements recorded by the present administration.

“I have been in opposition for the past 20 years, have never cross carpet to any other political party. However, today I am here to join the APC.

“I, along with my supporters have defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) today Monday, February 9th, 2026 due to the positive changes witnessed in Kebbi State and Nigeria at large,” she said.
