The Sokoto State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Professor Ala, on Monday led an unscheduled inspection of secondary schools in the Bodinga Zone to assess punctuality, discipline, and teaching activities.
The surprise visit was aimed at evaluating compliance with official school routines, including morning assemblies and teachers’ classroom attendance. The inspection team included the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Sanusi Aliyu Binji, alongside other senior officials.
Schools visited during the exercise included Haliru Rijiya Government Secondary School, Guiwa Government Day Secondary School, and Badau Government Girls Day Secondary School. Findings from the visits revealed lapses in several areas, as some teachers were absent from their classrooms while morning assemblies were not conducted in some of the schools.
Addressing school administrators during the inspection, Professor Ala cautioned principals against negligence and urged them to be more proactive and diligent in the discharge of their duties. He stressed the importance of teacher punctuality, effective supervision, and strict adherence to school schedules to ensure improved teaching and learning outcomes.
The Commissioner further warned that the Ministry would not tolerate laxity in the education sector, adding that school leadership must guarantee a disciplined and conducive learning environment for students. He assured that unscheduled inspections would be sustained across the state as part of efforts to strengthen accountability and raise education standards.
Also on the inspection team was Faruku Sifawa, a Permanent Board Member of the Teachers Service Board.
The development underscores the Sokoto State Government’s commitment to improving the quality of secondary education, with indications that similar inspections may be extended to other education zones. The government’s resolve to enhance accountability and educational outcomes was contained in a statement issued by the Ministry’s Information Officer, Ibrahim Iya.
