Thugs ambush Obesere at Ondo burial

A burial ceremony in Okitipupa, Ondo State, descended into complete chaos on Friday when suspected thugs launched a violent attack on Fuji icon Abass Akande Obesere and his band.

The shocking incident occurred at the Government Field, where the musician was performing, before the atmosphere suddenly shifted.

Eyewitness Bosede Akinyemi described the scene as “a disgraceful display of lawlessness,” revealing that the well-known hoodlums stormed the event and began assaulting the performer’s crew.

According to her, some band members were beaten while expensive equipment was vandalised in the pandemonium that sent guests running barefoot and clutching personal belongings.

Akinyemi added that at least one band member was reportedly stabbed while attempting to defend the equipment from destruction.

Reacting to the incident, Okitipupa LGA Chairman Andrew Ogunsakin condemned the attack, insisting it was an embarrassment to the community and a stain on the values of the Ikale people.

He further vowed to prevent similar assaults, promising stricter measures and an investigation to restore confidence in the safety of public events.

Ogunsakin also disclosed that he would personally apologise to Obesere and ensure that the perpetrators face consequences.
