An anti-corruption ambassador, Dr. Babatunde Adeyemo, has said that corruption is “fighting back” against the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu both locally and internationally, in a bid to undermine the economic gains recorded in the last two years.

Adeyemo, a veteran broadcast journalist turned real estate player, said the Tinubu administration’s reforms including the removal of fuel subsidy, stabilization of exchange rate, reduction in oil theft, and introduction of oil import tariffs have made Nigeria’s economy more resilient against corrupt manipulation.

He made the remarks in Abeokuta, Ogun State, shortly after leading members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on a Road Walk Against Corruption, organised by the National Anti-Corruption Coalition (NACC) to mark the Zero Tolerance for Corruption in Nigeria campaign.

The road walk, which began at the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Kuto, and terminated at the Iwe Iroyin Press Centre, Okelewo, also featured the Olu of Orile Ilawo, Oba (Prof.) Alexander Macgregor.

Adeyemo warned that recent attempts to portray Nigeria as a country of genocidal killings against Christians were part of a larger plot to derail the country’s positive economic trajectory and discredit the administration internationally.

He urged Nigerians, particularly the youth, to rally behind President Tinubu and resist narratives aimed at destabilising the country.

“It’s disheartening that corruption is fighting back both locally and internationally. Unfortunately, many youths who should be supporting this administration’s reforms are not reasoning along because of poor orientation,” he said.

Adeyemo added that economic indicators such as easier access to foreign exchange, reduced oil theft, and subsidy reforms reflect steady progress under the Tinubu administration, insisting that such developments are reasons corrupt interests both within and outside Nigeria are pushing back.

He called for continuous public enlightenment, especially among young people, to understand and support the country’s ongoing transformation efforts.
