A civil rights campaigner, Comrade Yinka Folarin, has urged the Ogun State Government to redirect its energy toward meaningful governance rather than constantly blaming previous administrations for its shortcomings.

In a statement titled “Ogun State Government Must Wake Up: Focus on Service, Not the Past,” Folarin criticized what he described as a growing tendency by the current administration to hide under the excuse of inherited liabilities despite enjoying increased revenue and improved federal allocation.

According to him, after more than six years in power, it was unjustifiable for the government to still be pointing fingers instead of showing clear developmental results.

“If after this long in office, the government is still blaming its predecessors, then it has lost focus,” Folarin said. “With the level of IGR and the volume of funds from Abuja, there’s no reason why the state should still be grappling with basic infrastructure.”

The activist argued that Ogun residents were becoming increasingly frustrated by the state’s slow pace of development and the government’s reliance on rhetoric rather than performance.

He also drew comparisons between past and present administrations, saying the people could clearly see the difference in leadership style and delivery.

“Governance is about results, not excuses,” he added. “It’s disappointing that after all the opportunities, Ogun State still struggles to show balance in development across the three senatorial districts.”

Folarin called on Governor Dapo Abiodun to initiate an independent audit of the state’s infrastructure and projects, stressing that Ogun’s growth trajectory appeared stagnant.

While acknowledging signature projects such as the Cargo Airport and the new Stadium, he questioned the absence of connecting road networks and proper planning around them.

“What sense does it make to have a cargo airport or a world-class stadium that people can hardly access?” he asked. “Development is not about isolated projects; it’s about how they improve people’s daily lives.”

Folarin urging the government to “leave the past behind and focus on the legacy it hopes to be remembered for.”
