Ogun Gov’t accused of undermining Court process, targeting Adebutu’s Property

The Ladi Adebutu Development Organization has accused the Ogun State Government of attempting to undermine ongoing court proceedings by issuing a notice of default on one of the properties belonging to Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu in Ode Remo, Remo North Local Government Area.

According to a statement signed by the group’s Director of Media and Publicity, Afolabi Orekoya, officials of the Ministry of Finance, acting under the directive of Governor Dapo Abiodun, recently posted the notice despite the matter being subject to active litigation before the High Court of Justice, Sagamu.

The group described the move as “a ploy to silence and harass the opposition in Ogun State,” alleging that it represents a misuse of state power aimed at intimidating Adebutu, who was the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the 2023 elections.

The statement noted that the land use and amenity charges on the property are already the subject of two pending suits:

1. HCS/275/2018 – Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu vs. Land Use and Amenities Charge Committee, Ogun State Ministry of Finance, Abeokuta, scheduled for hearing on October 8, 2025.

2. HCS/409/2024 – Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu vs. Land Use and Amenities Charge Committee, Ogun State Ministry of Finance, Abeokuta, still pending without a date fixed.

“It is laughable and contemptuous of the judiciary for the Government and its agents to attempt to enforce charges that are already being contested in competent courts of law,” the group stated.

The organization further argued that the Ministry of Finance has no legal basis to impose charges without a proper assessment, adding that the enforcement notice was issued “without due process.”

Condemning the action as a “reckless abuse of power,” the Adebutu group urged the state government to stop weaponizing its agencies against political opponents, insisting that the administration should instead focus on delivering good governance, infrastructure, and services to the people.

“We urge the good people of Ogun State to see through this intimidation tactic and remain resolute in the face of tyranny. Democracy cannot thrive where opposition voices are silenced through harassment and illegal enforcement actions,” the statement concluded.
