NRC MD begs journalists for embarrassing NTA reporter

The Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Dr. Kayode Opeifa, has apologized to journalists for regrettable remarks made while discussing a recent incident. In an address, Dr. Opeifa explained that the comments were made in the heat of the moment and were not intended to reflect negatively on the media.

The incident in question occurred when Dr. Opeifa was under pressure to keep the nation and the President updated on a recent accident. In his attempt to ensure safety, he made unkind statements that were not befitting of a seasoned professional.

Dr. Opeifa took full responsibility for his actions and offered an unreserved apology to the journalists, acknowledging the crucial role they play in informing the public. He emphasized his commitment to fostering a respectful and harmonious relationship between the NRC and the media community.

Dr. Opeifa provided details of the incident, including the emergency response efforts and the investigation into the cause of the accident. He thanked the military, the Federal Ministry of Health, and the FCT administration for their prompt response and support.

Dr. Opeifa assured journalists that he values their role in society and is committed to working with them to promote the railway sector and provide accurate information to Nigerians. He has initiated measures within the NRC to prevent similar incidents and ensure a positive working relationship with the media.

Dr. Opeifa highlighted the NRC’s achievements in the last seven months, including the introduction of the Track Access Program and the Railing with the States initiative. He emphasized the corporation’s commitment to making rail transportation accessible and affordable for all Nigerians.
