Niger CP Elleman deploys massive personnel, operational assets for Munya Constituency Bye-Election, quasi security outfits not allowed to cover the election

NigerStatee Police Commissioner, CP Adamu Abdullaha,n has declared that quasi security outfits should keep offduringt the weekendofythe election in Munya State Constituency.

The Command has ordered a massive deployment of personnel and operational assets of the Nigerian Police to ensure adequate security in the upcoming Saturday’s Munya State House of Assembly bye-election.

‎This was contained in a statement made available to newsmen in Minna, the state capital, signed by the Police Command’s Spokesperson, Wasiu A. Abiodun SP.

CP Elleman assured members of the public that adequate security will be provided during the election and had directed that all tactical teams such as the Police Mobile Force (PMF), Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), Explosive Ordinance Department (EOD-CBRN), Crack Squad, Tactical Support Team and other tactical bodies dominate the public space in the area and ensure police visibility.

‎While inspecting sensitive materials for the election at the Central Bank of Nigeria, in Minna along with the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, IPAC, and other security agencies on Friday, he reassured that police personnel will be adequately deployed to all the 119 polling units and 11 wards of the local government area where the election will take place.

He said that in addition to this, personnel of other security agencies under the Inter-agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) will also be placed along with police personnel at every polling unit and collation centres.

‎The CP noted that tactical teams shall provide escorts and security for both sensitive and non-sensitive materials, including electoral officers to collation centres and polling units, while other personnel shall ensure a conducive environment within the inner circle at the polling units for voters to exercise their rights peacefully.

The Commissioner of Police reiterated his command’s readiness to provide adequate security for a peaceful and credible election.

He also urged all political parties to play by the rules and warned that anyone who has nothing to do with the election process in the area should stay away from Munya, as enforcement of vehicular movement restrictions shall commence from 6am-6pm on Election Day.

‎He emphasized that only electoral officers, election observers, and essential workers, including emergency personnel and journalists, are permitted to move within this period, while quasi-security outfits are not allowed to cover the election.
