Ekiti community rekindles demand for creation of ‘Stand Alone’ LG, seeks proper placement demand

The committee for the actualisation of Ijero Municipal Local Government Area in Ekiti State has reiterated it’s request for creation of separate local government from the present ijero Local Government Area of the state.
It is also seeking for proper placement of the proposed local government, in Ekiti, and not Osun State, as wrongly, or inadvertently mentioned, as belonging to Osun.
Secretary of the committee, Mr Femi Alufa made this known in a statement issued in Ado-Ekiti, the State capital on Saturday, on behalf of the committee’s chairman, Chief Kayode Alufa, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
According to the Secretary, the committee had for years, been working assiduously for the renewed efforts for the creation of Ijero Municipal LGA, with the headquarters in Ijero-Ekiti.
He said the Memorandum for the Ijero Municipal LGA was also submitted in March, 2025 to the Federal House of Representatives’ Committee on Constitution Review.
Aside the chairman and himself, he named other committee members to include: Mr. Yemi Arokodare,a former House of Rep member member, who represented Ekiti Central Federal Constituency 2 (Ijero, Ekiti West & Efon LGAs) in 2003-2007, all of of who operate under general supervision of paramount ruler of the area, Oba Joseph Adebayo Adewole, the Owa Ajero of Ijero Kingdom.
“But we later found that the “Summarized Compendium Bills,” published by the House Committee on Constitution Review in July, 2025, placed the proposed Ijero Municipal LGA, from the present Ijero Local Government Area of Ekiti, in Osun State, on page 48 of the summarized compendium bills
Alufa said this development, made the committee members, who formed part of the Ijero-Ekiti community delegates, to represent the Oba and the community, on Friday in Akure, the Ondo State capital to attend Southwest Region Public Hearing on States and Local Governments creation, so as to further press home their demand for the creation of the said Ijero Municipal LGA, from the present Ijero Local Government Area of Ekiti, with headquarters at Ijero-Ekiti.
He said the Ijero delegates, led by High Chief Rufus Olayiwola Falodu, the Saade of Ijero-Ekiti, submitted Letter to the Public Hearing Committee on the anomalous error of putting the proposed Ijero Municipal LGA, Ekiti State in Osun State, rather than in Ekiti, and consequently asked that the error be corrected, as a matter of public urgency.
He gave names of other members of the town’s delegation to include High Chief Tope Babalogbon, who represented the Owa Ajero-in-Council, while the Ijero-Ekiti delegates at the Public Hearing event in Akure also included Mr. Ademola Ojo, (member, Ekiti State House of Assembly, representing Ijero Constituency).
