The former Chairman of Police Service Commission (PSC), Chief Simon Okeke (Ochendo Amichi), has described the late former President Muhammadu Buhari as a good soldier and a patriotic leader.
In a telephone call, on Monday, 14th of July, 2025, Ochendo quoted William Shakespeare by saying that “the world is a stage and we are players on the stage, each person plays his part and quit the stage for others to play their own and that’s the situation with Buhari”, adding that Buhari had played his part and would be greatly missed in the politics of Nigeria, particularly North to whom he served most.
As a patriotic leader, Okeke noted that Buhari served Nigeria very well both as a military Head of State and a civilian President.
According to Oto Chendo, he was the one expected to unify Nigeria well, but he did not succeed.
He condoled with his family for the loss of a patriot, ex-military and civilian President, adding that during his regime as he military Head of State in 1983 with Idiagbon, he made everybody sit up.
“Buhari was not known to be corrupt, he was an upright Head of State, never known to have amassed wealth, though he was accused. When he finished his rulership, he went down to Katsina, his home, and stayed instead of building mansions and skyscrapers here and there,” he disclosed.
“He will be very much missed by Nigerians. If every head of State were as incorruptible as he was, Nigeria would have been a better place.
“We are all human. He was a good man to a good number of people, he would be missed. Whatever he tried to do or whatever he did not do well, we should try to forgive him because he was just a human being” he added.
He prayed that his soul would find rest in the bosom of the Lord.
