Governor Nasir Idris has constituted a committee headed by the Deputy Governor, Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, to investigate and address the persistent power outages in Kebbi State.
Speaking shortly after attending a meeting of the Kebbi Elders Consultative Forum on Monday in Birnin Kebbi, the Governor revealed that the State Government provides monthly support of N150 million to the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KAEDCO) to support electricity supply to the state.
Additionally, the government has purchased 75 transformers and other essential accessories based on KAEDCO’s recommendations.
Governor Idris emphasized that the current electricity challenges lay solely with KAEDCO and not the State Government, stressing that his administration has taken all necessary steps to support power supply in the state.
He said the explanation became necessary following complaints from people about the lack of electricity.
“Some residents of Kebbi State are complaining about lack of electricity. Some say they only get power for two or three hours a day, honestly, I don’t know what’s happening, as far as we’re concerned, we’ve done our part and fulfilled our obligations, this is not what we agreed upon with them,” he remarked.
