Kebbi Zakkat Committee disburses N30m to vulnerable persons

The Kebbi State Zakkat and Sadaqa Committee has distributed N30 million to the poor and needy individuals in the state.

The amount was donated by the Kebbi State Governor Comrade, Dr.Nasir Idris, as part of efforts to support the committee towards bringing succor to the vulnerable.

Speaking at the ceremony held in Birnin Kebbi on Tuesday, the State Governor, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, urged wealthy individuals to give out Alms to earn Allah’s favor.

Represented by the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Umar-Tafida, Idris, observed that Zakkat, as one of the five pillars of Islam, remained a sure way of purifying one’s wealth.

“May I encourage wealthy Muslims in the society to be prompt in giving out Zakkat at and when due to earn the mercy of Allah and to gain more respect from the poor and needy,” he advised?

Earlier in a welcome address, Malam Umar Isa-Magaji, the Chairman of the Zakkat and Sadaqa Committee, advised the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the fund to improve their lives.

Giving the breakdown, Isa-Magaji said 80 people were drawn from Birnin Kebbi Local Government, while Argungu, Yauri, Zuru, Danko-Wasagu, and Bagudo LGs had 60 people each and gave N20,000 to each beneficiary.

He said the remaining local government areas of the state were expected to produce 50 people each.

The chairman revealed that the former Governor of the state and Senator representing Kebbi Central, Sen. Adamu Aliero donated 100 bags of rice, which would also be shared among the needy and the poor.

He added that of the total number, 20 bags had been supplied to refugees at the internally displaced persons (IDP) camp at Kangiwa, Arewa local government area.

Isa-Magaji also said that the former Governor and Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Sen. Abubakar Atiku-Bagudu had donated N10 million, while the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Umar-Tafida donated the sum of N5 million.

According to him, the amount of money received from these individuals will also be disbursed to the poor and the needy at a later period.
