The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Professor Florence Banku Obi, has declared that a total of 168,786 thousand graduates have passed through to be worthy and learning from the prestigious University of Calabar degrees, diplomas, and Ph.Ds since the inception of the institution since 1975 – 2025 which is now fifty years.
This declaration was made in Calabar during the World Press Briefing to mark the 37th Convocation ceremony set for the 22nd of March 2025.
He disclosed that a total of 13,786 thousand graduates will be awarded degrees, Masters, Ph.D, diplomas, and Certificates to mark fifty years of the golden jubilee of the institution.
The first female Vice Chancellor also explained that the program line-up for the 37th convocation includes the commissioning of a Hall of Fame for all the former Vice Chancellors of the institution.
The performance guru further narrated that her administration added feathers tors to the iinstitution’ssecurity and fire protection system as has constructedcted a ficlass fireFire Service Station with aworld-classroving trucks to prevent uunforeseenfire ooutbreaks
The 37th convocation ceremony will for the first time in history is expected to give an honarry Doctorate Degree to non Malabreast, Mrs. Unoama Obot Akpabio on Education while the present Minister for Federal Capital Territory (FCT), His Excellency Nyesom Ezewoyen Wike will be awarded Doctoral degree on political science.
Similarly, the Cross River State “Sweet Prince”, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu who is the first malabites from Cross River State to become Governnor of the state is also awarded an honarry Doctorate Degree on Political Science amongst Others.
