The YAYI Ni Wura Alliance Movement (Y.A.M.) has declared support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid and the governorship aspiration of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as YAYI, while announcing plans to expand its grassroots mobilisation across Ogun State.

The group, which describes itself as a sociopolitical organisation, said its membership includes former supporters of opposition parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and African Democratic Congress (ADC).

At a press briefing in Ogun State on Thursday, the group’s Director of Media and Publicity, Comrade Wasiu Adekunle Adejumo (Westo), said members from different political backgrounds had come together around their stated support for Tinubu and Adeola.

He said the movement was established to provide a platform for people who share those political objectives, irrespective of their previous party affiliations.

“We were initially on the side of the opposition party. Some of us from APC, PDP, some of us are from ADC,” Adejumo said.

He added that members formerly associated with a group led by a serving PDP senatorial candidate had also joined the alliance.

“Because of the reason that we want to support Solomon Olamilekan Adeola YAYI in Ogun State, and we want to support the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu; that is the reason why we decided to come together.”

The movement’s State Coordinator, Comrade Akeem Shodiya, said the organisation was established to mobilise support for Tinubu, Adeola and other APC candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.

Shodiya said Y.A.M. would remain open to members of other political platforms who wished to join its campaign structure.

“We have made our decision. We have chosen our direction, we are open to all, and we want everyone to support this movement,” he said.

Alliance announces statewide mobilisation:

The group said its activities would extend beyond political advocacy to community engagement and empowerment programmes.

Adejumo cited a medical outreach organised by the movement at State Hospital, Ijaye, as part of activities undertaken in support of its political objectives.

He also highlighted what he described as Adeola’s legislative and constituency interventions, particularly in his capacity as a senator and chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations.

Claims about the scale and impact of those interventions were made by the alliance at the briefing and were not independently quantified in the information provided.

The alliance also expressed support for the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, citing infrastructure projects and economic reforms as areas it believes should be sustained.

Westo acknowledged that the administration had areas requiring attention but said the group believed the government was addressing some of the challenges confronting the country.

Group criticises opposition figures:

The briefing also featured criticism of opposition politicians, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party figure Peter Obi.

Westo said the alliance did not support either politician and questioned aspects of Obi’s policy proposals and public statements.

He described Obi in strongly critical terms and said the movement considered Tinubu’s administration preferable to the alternatives it identified.

Those remarks represent the alliance’s political position rather than an independently established assessment.

“We support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and we support all APC candidates in Ogun State, from Senator YAYI; to Senator Shuaib Salisu, who is also seeking re-election for the seat of Senate in Ogun Central. We support Olumide Osoba; we support all APC candidates across the state”, he noted.

Y.A.M. pledges 100,000-vote mobilisation:

The alliance said it intends to mobilise support for APC candidates across Ogun State and pledged to pursue further community-based empowerment initiatives.

Its officials also announced a target of 100,000 votes for APC candidates across the state, although the figure is a mobilisation target announced by the organisation and not an independent projection of electoral support.

The development comes as political organisations and support groups intensify grassroots activities ahead of the 2027 elections. INEC’s current timetable schedules the Presidential and National Assembly elections for January 16, 2027, and the Governorship and State House of Assembly elections for February 6, 2027.

Also present at the briefing were alliance officials and stakeholders, including Senatorial Leader Hon. Gbenga Adewale; Hon. Joseph Akintunde (Ogun West); Alhaji Segun Saula (Ogun East); Hon. Kehinde Oluyooye (Ijebu North East); Comrade Moshood Ogundare (Oyinbo Iyabo); Hon. Mrs Funke (Obafemi-Owode); Hon. Toyin Kajogbola (Abeokuta North); Comrade Temitope Ajayi (Obailukan), among others.

The group’s Director-General, Dr. Iziak Salako, Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, was also acknowledged at the event.

With the 2027 electoral calendar now formally in place, the emergence of groups such as Y.A.M. adds another layer to the expanding network of political support organisations seeking to influence voter mobilisation and campaign activity in Ogun State.
