Niger: Water scarcity claims one life in Koropka Chanchaga River

The actuate shortage of treated water and supply by the Niger State Water and Sewage Corporation has led to the death of a teenage girl who has gone in search of f drinkable water.

It was learned that the problem of water supply was compounded by the current road construction going on in the state capital, Minna.

However, Residents of Koropka appeared worst hit resulting in the use of water for their domestic use as they all troop to the river to wash their clothing and fetch water

A teenage girl of age not yet 18 years of age identified as Elizabeth’s life was cut short as she was drawn from the river under the watchful eye of her siblings and other residents of the area who could not do anything to save her life as they all watched her drawn.

According to an eye witness, “The incident was one terrible experience I had in recent times as the elder sister of the girl ran to me to help search and rescue her drawing sister.

It took almost an hour of search before the body was discovered by some youth in the area.

This is an urgent call to the government and the company to find a way of restoring the water supply to the people to avoid more causality.

It will be recalled that the river Chanchaga was the major source of water for the people since the water supply from the water board was cut off.
