House Committee on LG, chieftaincy affairs to promote transparency, accountability

In continuation of its oversight function, the Niger State House of Assembly Standing Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs has visited four local government areas of the state.

The committee led by its Chairman Hon. Dr. Alhaji Bello Bako, was at four local government areas – Agwara, Borgu, Katcha, and Agaie as part of its ongoing oversight function of the 25 LGAs in the State,

The committee’s primary objective is to ensure effective management of resources, transparency, and accountability in governance in compliance with relevant sections of the Constitution.

During the visit, Chairman Hon. Bello Bako assured local government chairmen that the committee’s oversight function is not intended to embarrass or challenge them, but rather to correct and put records straight.

He made it known that the committee’s mission is to assess the progress made by local government chairmen in their respective areas.

As part of the visit, the committee inspected ongoing and completed projects executed by the Chairmen, where the committee. Emphasized that the oversight visit is crucial in ensuring that local governments in the State are accountable and transparent in their operations.

In their separate remarks, the Chairmen of Agwara, Hon. Iliyasu Zakari, Borgu, Hon. Yarima Kalishi Sulayman, Katcha, Hon. Zubairu Mohammed Essan, and Agaie, Hon. Ibrahim Halilu Sayuti, appreciated the Chairman and Members of the Committee for the visit and assured the Committee Members that they will do the needful and also assure them of their cooperation at all times for the socio-economic development of their respective Councils.

Members of the Committee include:- Hon. Engr. Mohammed Alhaji Haruna (Bida South), Hon. Arch. Abubakar Suleiman Gomna (Bosso), Hon. Murtala Adamu Badaru (Suleja), Hon. Mohammed Isah Etsugaie (Agaie) Hon. Alhassan Isah (Mashegu) and Hon. Mohammed Garba (Agwara), respectively.
