Niger Speaker receives PDP defected Lawmaker to APC

The member representing the Edati constituency in the Niger State House of Assembly, Hon. Ahmed Mohammed Rokoto, has officially defected from the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
His defection was formally acknowledged on, February 18, 2024, by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Barr. Muhammad Abdulmalik Sarkin Daji.
Rokota, who was elected during the March 11, 2023, election on the PDP platform, cited reasons for his defection, including the good governance demonstrated by the APC and the presence of the Niger State First Lady, who hails from his locality.
Additionally, he expressed concerns about a potential crisis within the PDP at the national level that might impact the state and local governments.
Rokota was accompanied to the Assembly Complex by key APC leaders from Edati.
