Ebonyi Gov’t Condole family of 11 victims died in Enugu Ttanker explosion

The Governor of Ebonyi State, His Excellence, Rt Prince Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has sent representatives, his wife Chie,f, Mrs. Mary-maudline Nwifuru, the CEO of (BERWO) foundation,, including the chief of staff of the St, ate, Prof. Echiegu Emmanuel and the other stakeholders to condole the family of victims who died in Enugu tanker explosion.
On the 12 days of February 2025, the Ebonyi State government paid a condolences visit to
the family of the victims at Abofia village in Ebonyi LGA of the state. The death of 11 victims occurred as a result of a tanker explosion as they were returning to their village in Ebonyi State for the burial of their late father, Mr Celestine Nwaji. The tanker explosion took the lives of 11: one family, a father, a mother 6, children, a younger brother, and a housemaid.
The explosion occurred on 25th January 2025 at Ugwu Onyeama in Enugu State. While the Victims are indigent of Abofia in Ebonyi local government Area of Ebonyi State
The founder and CEO of Better Health for Rural Women Children and Internally Displaced Persons (BERWO) Mrs Nwifuru “said it is an incident that affected the whole state, “I’m here to pay this condolences visit to enable the mother of the victims to be encouraged, “we are nobody to question God, but only God knows the best. “I prayed to God to give u the heart to bear this loss. Nwifuru said to the mother of the victims.
She further” said that the death of your
children touched the whole state. The government is working with readiness to find a solutions to these tragic occurrences on the roads.
In speaking during an interview with the residents of the victims, the brother of the victims Nwaji Ezekiel Ikechukwu, the brother to the victims of tanker explosion who died in the accident lamented that on the 25th of January, 2025 my brother Jeremiah Nwaji was returning back from Anambra State and reaching Enugu a tanker explosion took place and claims the lives of my two brothers, my two brothers his wife Children, maid in total of 11 from my Jeremiah family all alone including his Twince children.
Many have come here to pay me a visit for my brother’s death I pleaded to the Govt to construct good roads on the federal highways and instruct all duties vehicles to operate in the night time and allow the small vehicles to ride in the daytime and with that, there will total reductions of accidents on the roads he Ezekiel said”
He continues to narrate that the proper burial is not done yet according to their traditions. So, we are preparing to do the proper burial of my brother and the family; we just led them to rest for the moment.
Mr. Nwaji Ezekiel Ikechukwu furthermore said that due to how the fire burnt everything to ashes, we couldn’t know the company vehicle that caused the explosion up till now. Everything was packed the way it’s burnt including my late brother Ezekiel Nwaji Siena with his 11 family to the police station. He said.
In an interview, the Executive council Chairman of Ebonyi LGA and Chairman of ALGON, Mr Chinedu UBURU, Said it is a very tragic incident that has happened to the community and the entire people of Ebonyi LGA, the State, and the country in general.
He prayed that God would give the family and the entire people of Ebonyi LGA and the state the heart to bear this tragic loss.
In an interview, the Council boss urged the government to give instructions that heavy-duty vehicles operate during the night while small vehicles operate during the day to reduce and avoid reductions of road accidents.
One of the victim’s family, Mr Igwe, Commended the government for the visitation and pledged that in God they relied on it, “We really appreciate the government for the efforts to encourage us, and we pray that God will give the heart to bear the loss.
