Ogun to establish ranching facilities for hygienic meat processing

The Ogun State government is set to establish modern ranching facilities to enhance meat processing and ensure hygienic practices in the sector. Governor Dapo Abiodun disclosed this initiative during a meeting with SEMMARIS’ Head of International Projects, Mr. Timothee Witkowski, and the Regional Agriculture Counsellor of the French Embassy, Sonia Darraco, at his office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Governor Abiodun explained that the planned ranching facilities would support the rearing, fattening, slaughtering, and processing of meat hygienically, benefiting both the local and regional markets. He also highlighted plans to expand into pig farming and improve poultry organization in the state.
The governor noted that an estimated 9,000 to 10,000 cattle are slaughtered daily at the Kara Cattle Market to supply Lagos, but current practices lack proper hygiene. The establishment of modern facilities, he said, would address these concerns and improve meat quality.
Commending SEMMARIS for its impact on agriculture and food distribution, Abiodun expressed optimism that the company’s presence in Ogun State would be a game-changer, benefiting not just the state but the entire southwest region. He also emphasized the state’s strong road network, abundant natural resources, and agricultural potential, making it an ideal location for investment.
The governor described the meeting as a follow-up to discussions held in France, reaffirming Nigeria’s strong business ties with France. He assured that his administration would provide the necessary support and incentives to facilitate the project’s success.
Mr. Witkowski, speaking on behalf of SEMMARIS, affirmed the company’s commitment to partnering with Ogun State in modernizing agricultural practices and providing technical expertise. He highlighted the state’s strategic location and vast land availability as key advantages.
Regional Agriculture Counsellor Sonia Darraco added that the company is conducting a feasibility study to explore business opportunities in the state. She assured that France is ready to support the initiative, which is expected to create jobs, enhance food security, and strengthen the agricultural value chain.
