House of Assembly standing committee oversight function not to witch hunt local council

The Chairman Niger state house of Assembly standing committee on local government and chieftaincy affairs, Alhaji Bello Bako, has assured that the committee was not out to witch-hunt any council.

He gave the assurance when he led Members of the Committee on an oversight function in continuation of its series of engagements with Local Government Areas in the State.

The Committee visited Wushishi and Rafi Local Government Areas where they carry out their Legislative oversight mandate.

According to Alhaji Bello Bako, the House of Assembly is constitutionally empowered to hold to account and call to account any person entrusted with the management of public funds and resources.

He emphasized that the exercise aims to ensure transparency and effective management of Local Government Financial resources.

The Committee Chairman further reiterated the fact that the exercise was not meant to witch-hunt anybody, and he solicited the council’s maximum cooperation during and after the exercise.

It also inspected projects executed by the local government areas to ensure compliance with regulations.

In their separate remarks during the visit of the House Standing Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy affairs to their respective Local Government Areas, the Chairman of Wushishi, Hon. Mohammed Apoti Yelwa, and Rafi Local Government Area Hon. Usman Ayuba Katako appreciated the Chairman and Members of the Committee for the visit and assured their cooperation in implementing Local Government procurement law for effective management of their Financial resources of the local Government.
