Ogun Monarch dismisses reports of Court-Ordered Deposition, says it’s false
Lauretta Fagbohun, Abeokuta.
The Ilawo Traditional Council of Chiefs has refuted claims that the Ogun State High Court, Abeokuta Division, delivered a judgment deposing Oba Alexander Macgregor as the Olu of Orile Ilawo.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the Council clarified that no such ruling was issued on January 28, 2025, dismissing the reports as misleading. They explained that the case Suit No. 789/2022 remains pending before the court, with proceedings scheduled to continue on March 19, 2025.
The Council elaborated that the court’s directives were intended to maintain the status quo until a final judgment is reached. They also reaffirmed that Oba Macgregor was rightfully selected as the Oba Elect before the lawsuit was filed, emphasizing the legitimacy of the selection process.
Addressing an interlocutory ruling related to the case, the Council noted that an appeal is currently pending. They stressed that any claims of the monarch’s removal are unfounded and meant to mislead the public while destabilizing the Ilawo kingdom.
Calling for calm, the Council urged the people of Ilawo and well-wishers to ignore the false reports, assuring them of their commitment to due process and justice. They expressed gratitude for the continued support of the community and reaffirmed their dedication to preserving the kingdom’s traditions and integrity.
