The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of more than 10 women over an alleged same-sex private party held at Canewood Hotel, located at No. 167 Jakpa Road, Tori, Warri.
According to the Command, the operation was carried out by its intelligence unit following what it described as credible intelligence. Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said the investigation was also prompted by complaints from some community leaders and traditional rulers over alleged same-sex activities in parts of the state.
The police alleged that the gathering was organised by Miss Stephenie Ikpah. They added that further investigations led to the identification of other individuals, including Miss Chioma Eke, Miss Jennifer Osaze, Miss Cynthia Udochima, Miss Francesca Ikpema, and Miss Echi Abigail Adaeze, whom the police described as the daughter of a retired NNPC director. According to the Command, some of the suspects are currently on the run.
The Command also stated that investigators seized several mobile phones and claimed to have recovered materials considered relevant to the ongoing investigation.
The Delta State Police Command said those arrested, as well as others allegedly involved, would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations. It added that anyone found to have violated Nigerian law would be prosecuted in accordance with the law and expressed appreciation to members of the public who provided information that aided the investigation.
