Political Bloodbath: Adubor Hussein Odion Who Once Changed Name to Escape Death on the Run Again After Edo Clash Kills Two

The fragile peace in Edo State has once again been shattered following a violent political confrontation that claimed two lives, injured several others, and forced one man, Harry Hussein Amuda, to flee for his life, for the second time in 2023.

The latest bloodbath occurred during a renewed political clash involving rival groups loyal to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Labour Party (LP) in the build-up to a local grassroots mobilization meeting. The confrontation turned deadly when thugs allegedly loyal to a powerful APC figure, Hon. Charles Eiosun, popularly known as “Great Lion”, stormed the meeting venue, leaving two LP supporters dead and several others wounded.

Among those who narrowly escaped the deadly attack is 39-year-old Harry Hussein Amuda, a former political aide and B.Sc. graduate of Ambrose Alli University. Known for his grassroots involvement and loyalty to LP candidates during the 2023 presidential elections, Hussein has once again disappeared without a trace following the incident, raising fears among his family and political allies.

But this isn’t the first time Hussein has fled political violence, as it happened in 2018.

Born Adubor Hussein Odion, he was once a promising young man from Edo State who ventured into politics not for ambition but for survival. With sick parents and siblings to care for, he accepted roles as a political aide to various local politicians. But the deadly turf wars and violent thuggery that characterize Edo’s volatile political scene soon engulfed his world.

In the years leading up to the 2019 general elections, political rivalries forced Hussein into hiding after surviving multiple threats to his life. The situation escalated when he reported an illegal arms deal tied to a political faction. Fearing for his safety, he fled Edo and wandered through Kano and Port Harcourt before finally settling in Lagos, under a new identity.

He legally changed his name to HARRY HUSSEIN AMUDA in a bid to sever ties with his past and start afresh, but peace remained elusive.

In January 2023, months before the presidential elections, Hussein and some LP loyalists uncovered an alleged plot to rig the elections through ballot snatching in several polling units across Edo State. They reported the plot to the police, which led to the arrest of several APC-linked thugs and key party stakeholders.

However, the move triggered deadly retaliation. In a chilling police report, Hussein said he was unaware the perpetrators had discovered he was behind the whistleblowing, until his group was ambushed during a routine campaign activity. Two of his allies were killed on the spot.

Since the attack, Hussein has vanished once again. He has been on the run since early 2023, shortly after the general elections. He was reportedly spotted in Lagos, but efforts to trace him since then have been futile.

His sister, who pleaded anonymity for fear of reprisals, told our reporter, “We’re afraid he has been kidnapped or worse. This is not the first time he’s been hunted down for doing the right thing. He just wanted a peaceful life.”

Edo State Police Command has confirmed the deaths of the two LP supporters and described the incident as a politically motivated assault. While investigations are ongoing, no official leads have been released regarding Hussein’s current location.
