Delta: Six armed robbers, kidnappers disguising as vigilantes in police net

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have nabbed six armed robbers cum kidnappers who disguise as vigilantes and hunters.

This development was revealed by the spokesman of the Delta State Police Command, Bright Edafe, in a statement.

Edafe in the statement on Saturday, said police operatives attached to Ekpan Police Station and deployed on patrol along Jakpa Road, intercepted a Toyota Sienna space bus, ash in colour, without registration number conveying six male occupants on December 15, 2022 at about 8pm.

He said the policemen, on suspicion, subjected the six men to a search.

Found on them were three pump action guns, four locally made guns, one long axe, seven expended cartridges, nine live cartridges, native charms, three cutlasses and two number plates.

The all male suspects, including Aaron Okorigwe, 27, could not give reasonable account of themselves and were taken into custody.

Edafe said investigation later revealed that they were hoodlums who operate under the guise of being members of hunters group from Ovwian Aladja, but sneak into Ekpan Community in a Sienna vehicle, rob, kidnap and “run to hibernate in OvwianAladja”.

He said following these findings, the area’s Divisional Police Officer on December 16, 2022 invited three victims (names withheld), all of whom were at various times victims of armed robberies and kidnappings in the area, and placed the suspects on identification parade.

He said the victims identified the suspects as the syndicate that robbed and kidnapped them.

Edafe said investigation was ongoing.
