Police arrest 5 for stealing motor engines in Ogun

Ogun State Police Command has arrested five men for allegedly robbing a company at Sango Ota in Ado/Odo-Ota Local Government Area.

The suspects are: Umar Haruna, Abbah Yahaya,  Muritala Umar, Wale Fadeyi and Segun Olofinmade.

They were nabbed on September 19, for stealing motor engines belonging to Balita company in Sango Ota area.

Their arrest follow a distress call received by policemen at Sango divisional headquarters at about 12:30 midnight, that a group of armed robbers had stormed the company

The caller said that the robbers numbering about ten and armed with cutlasses forcefully gained entrance into company and started packing away motor engines which the company is selling. 

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi confirmed this to newsmen in a statement in Abeokuta yesterday.

Oyeyemi said that upon the distress call, the DPO Sango division, SP Saleh Dahiru, mobilized his men and moved into the area. 

“On sighting the policemen, the hoodlums who came with a Mitsubishi Canter bus with registration number LSR 414 YF took to their heels but they were chased and five amongst them were apprehended while others escaped.” he added 

The Police PRO said preliminary investigation revealed that the robbery incident was masterminded by the former Chief Security officer of the company who was relieved of his duty about three months ago. 

He noted  that the ex- Chief Security Officer is now on the run, while the bus loaded with ten motor engines and cutlasses were among the items recovered from them.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, has directed that the case be transferred to State Criminal Investigation Departments for discreet investigation. 

He also ordered a massive manhunt for the fleeing former Chief Security Officer with the view to bring him to justice.
