July 24 LG polls sacrosanct- OGSIEC
Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission says it is ready to conduct a hitch-free election into the vacant seats of Chairmen and Councilors in the 20 Local Government Councils across the State this coming Saturday, 24th of July, 2021.
This is just as necessary machineries had been put in place to ensure an immediate release of all polling results at the Commission’s headquarters within few hours after the elections.
The Chairman of the Commission, Babatunde Osibodu, gave the assurance during an interface with members of the State House of Assembly Committee on Special Duties and Parastatals led by Hon. Ademola Adeniran at the on-going budget performance assessment held at the Assembly Complex, Oke- Mosan, Abeokuta.
Osibodu stated that there would be restriction of human and vehicular movements between 8:00am and 2:00pm on the elections day, adding that the electoral body had been engaging necessary stakeholders including political party agents, security formations and traditional rulers amongst others, through multi-lingual orientation programmes.
Responding, the Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Adeniran as well as Honourables Solomon Osho, Tinuke Bello and Musefiu Lamidi challenged the Commission to put in place measures towards ensuring the conduct of a very transparent and credible election
In the same vein, the State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Funmi Efuwape, has described vocational skill acquisition programmes as one veritable means of economic empowerment being adopted by the State in building a sustainable livelihood for women to be self- dependent.
The Commissioner, represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs. Melutia Ogunremi, disclosed this while presenting the budget performance of the Ministry before the members of the House of Assembly Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development led by Hon. Sikiratu Ajibola
Efuwape added that the Ministry, which recently conducted a matriculation ceremony for 100 trainees into the vocational training programme, equally organised a multi stakeholders dialogue to identity capacity gaps in implementing initiatives on ending violence against women and girls in the State.
She explained that the ministry had equally handled a total of 836 family cases between January and June this year.
