9mobile rebrands as T2, targets market leadership in digital innovation

Telecommunications company 9mobile has officially rebranded to T2, signalling a new chapter in its transformation journey and a bid to strengthen its position in Nigeria’s competitive telecoms market.
The rebrand is part of a four-phase recovery roadmap—Stabilisation, Modernisation, Transformation, and Growth—initiated after the 2023 acquisition of 9mobile by Lighthouse Telecoms, led by businessman and investor, Thomas Etuh.
Since the takeover, the company has overhauled its leadership, appointed a new board, and entered a landmark infrastructure-sharing agreement with MTN Nigeria, significantly boosting its network coverage and capacity nationwide.
Announcing the change at an event in Lagos, Chief Executive Officer Obafemi Banigbe said the new identity represents a complete evolution of the brand.
“This is not just a logo change, it’s a total evolution of who we are, why we exist, and how we deliver value,” Banigbe said. “T2 is a symbol of our renewed commitment to innovation, resilience, and customer experience.”
Chairman Thomas Etuh described the rebrand as “a rebirth” for the company, noting that the journey to this point had been challenging. He expressed gratitude to customers and stakeholders, including the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), for their support through the company’s legal and operational hurdles.
“We are rising together again. Together, with you, we are reclaiming all lost grounds,” Etuh said.
The Minister for Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, praised T2’s vision but urged that the change go beyond a new name.
“Let this rebrand be a renewed commitment to innovation, service excellence, and the millions of Nigerians whose lives depend on your network,” he said.
Representing Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, said T2’s focus on digital innovation aligns with the state’s vision for a robust digital economy.
The transition to T2 will be phased to ensure uninterrupted service for customers. The brand will operate on four core pillars—Speed, Smart Living, Digital Lifestyle, and Trust—aiming to bridge the gap between technology and everyday life.
With the rebrand, T2 is positioning itself not just to compete in Nigeria’s telecom sector but to lead in shaping the country’s digital future.
