Three members of the Federal Executives Council (FEC) has tendered their resignation letters after President Muhammadu Buhari asked Ministers with political ambition in 2023 to resign immediately.
The three Ministers are the Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba, the Niger Delta Minister, Godswill Akpabio and the Minister for Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi. The three Ministers recently obtained N100 million All Progreeives Congress (APC) presidential forms.
Buhari while giving the order at the tail end of the weekly FEC meeting praised Nwajiuba for resigning his position before he was ordered to do so
The President announced that he had received the resignation of Nwajiuba seeking to be President.
He said: “I expect other members of this council seeking to be President to resign with immediate effect.”
A source in the cabinet said: “We were not clear if this directive will affect other ministers aspiring to be governors, Senators and House of Representatives members.
“We are expecting more clarifications soon.”
The affected cabinet members affected include; Ministers of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi; Niger Delta, Sen. Godswill Akpabio; Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige and Science, Technology and Innovation, Ogbonnaya Onu.
Others are; the Minister of State for Education, Emeka Nwajiuba, and the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami.
Meanwhile, the Minister of State, Mines and Steel, Uche Ogar, is running for the governorship position in Abia.
The Minister of Women Affairs, Pauline Tallen, has also declared her ambition to contest the senatorial seat in Plateau State.
