The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has arrested three individuals for indiscriminately dumping refuse at Ladipo Junction, inward Airport Road.
The Director of Public Affairs of the agency, Dr Mukaila Sanusi, disclosed this in a statement shared on Monday.
Speaking on the development, LAWMA’s Executive Director, Finance, Mr Kunle Adebiyi, said the suspects were arrested following an intervention by the Ladipo Market Union on Thursday, 29 October 2026.
He said they were subsequently handed over to the Task Force Office in Oshodi for further action in accordance with existing environmental laws and regulations.
The LAWMA Executive Director commended the market union for its proactive role, describing the intervention as a demonstration of community responsibility and stakeholder collaboration.
He emphasised that safeguarding the environment required collective efforts, with market associations, residents, businesses and community leaders playing important roles.
He stated that decisive action against environmental offenders sent a clear message that indiscriminate waste disposal would not be tolerated, as such practices led to the defacing of public spaces, obstruction of drainage channels and environmental degradation, while posing risks to public health.
He urged traders and members of the public to patronise approved waste collection services and dispose of refuse only through authorised channels, rather than on roads, medians and other public spaces.
He reiterated the Authority’s commitment to working with market unions and other stakeholders across the State to strengthen environmental compliance and promote a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable Lagos.
