The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has said Kano State deserves greater attention and developmental opportunities from the Federal Government, considering its large voting population and political significance in Nigeria.
Barau made the observation at the weekend while inaugurating campaign committees for Dawakin Tofa, Tofa and Rimin Gado Local Government Areas of Kano State, where he spoke about the political implications of the state’s recent alignment with the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He noted that Kano was among the states with the largest number of registered voters, second only to Lagos according to the latest figures, making its political participation particularly significant in national electoral affairs.
The Deputy President of the Senate described Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s decision to move from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to the APC as a strategic political development, expressing the hope that the realignment would enhance Kano’s political relevance and access to developmental opportunities.
He expressed confidence that the alignment of the Governor, local government chairmen, councillors, state legislators and members of the National Assembly under the APC would encourage greater political cooperation and coordination in the state.
Barau also said the forthcoming elections would usher in another phase of political and developmental activities, adding that elected representatives would be expected to contribute meaningfully towards addressing the needs of their respective constituencies.
On the presidential election scheduled for January 16, 2027, the Deputy President of the Senate expressed optimism about President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election, citing assessments by political analysts and developments in the country’s political environment.
He made the remarks while calling on party members and the newly inaugurated campaign committees to work collectively towards the success of APC candidates, urging them to mobilise supporters and sustain grassroots campaigns across Dawakin Tofa, Tofa, Rimin Gado and other parts of Kano State.
