Aston Villa ended Manchester City’s winning run in the Premier League with a 2-1 victory at Villa Park, thanks to first-half striker Nicolas Jackson’s opener and his second-half winner.
Jackson struck in the sixth minute to give Villa an early lead, finishing off an attack created by John McGinn as the hosts made a bright start against Pep Guardiola’s side.
Manchester City struggled to find an equaliser before half-time, with Marc Guéhi cautioned in the 32nd minute as Villa maintained their advantage. Rayan Cherki was also booked six minutes later, with the home side taking a 1-0 lead into the break.
City returned with greater urgency after half-time and drew level in the 52nd minute through Erling Haaland, who finished an opportunity created by Iliman Ndiaye to put the visitors back in contention.
However, Villa responded quickly to restore their lead. Jackson scored his second goal of the match in the 60th minute, with Ibrahim Mbaye providing the assist, to put the hosts 2-1 ahead.
City pushed for another equaliser in the closing stages, but Villa held firm to secure all three points and bring the visitors’ league winning streak to an end.
The result provides a significant boost to Villa’s campaign, while City will be disappointed to have surrendered their advantage after Haaland’s equaliser offered hope of a comeback.
Villa’s clinical finishing proved decisive, with Jackson’s brace settling an entertaining contest and handing the home side a valuable victory.
