The Federal Government has called for an immediate de-escalation of tensions between the Houthi militia in Yemen and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, warning that further hostilities could threaten civilian lives and regional peace and stability.

In a statement issued on Sunday by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, the government said it was deeply concerned by the ongoing tensions and reported attacks involving the Houthis and Saudi Arabia.

Nigeria urged all parties to exercise maximum restraint and refrain from actions capable of further inflaming hostilities.

The Federal Government also called on the parties to prioritise dialogue, diplomacy and peaceful means of resolving their differences in line with the principles of the United Nations Charter and international law.

According to the statement, any further escalation of the conflict risks undermining regional security and stability.

Nigeria reaffirmed its commitment to the peaceful settlement of disputes and expressed its readiness to support genuine and constructive efforts aimed at reducing tensions, restoring calm and promoting lasting peace and stability in the region.
